Harvey is a local hailing from Burntwood just up the A5 from Sutton and he has no trouble in his local, The Sutton Media Centre. “There is a real energy about Emmanuel Court with so many creative projects taking place from radio broadcasts to short films. Students and staff treat each other with respect and have created a positive learning environment.” He went to Hull University to study American Studies, a mixture of Film, History and Literature. This included a year in America at the University of California, Santa Cruz. He gained a 2.1.and wrote a dissertation on ‘Joe Louis and Boxing in American Culture’. He went on to take a P.G.C.E. in English, Drama and Media at Nottingham University then taught English and Media at local schools, Park Hall and Plantsbrook. He has been lecturing at Sutton Coldfield College since he returned from a trip around the world in 2002. Hobbies include photography and football although his glory days of turning on a sixpence for Shenstone FC are now over. He combines these hobbies by taking off on long distance cycle rides. His latest venture took him to the Lizard in Cornwall, “ you see more on a bicycle and get to meet local people off the beaten track. If you get up early enough to catch the early light you don’t pay for camping either !” Current projects include making a documentary on bee-keeping which he hopes to show in the Spring alongside those of his A2 students. |
